Research in the Kwabi Lab focuses on developing energy- and resource-efficient electrochemical systems to address decarbonization and environmental sustainability. We use advanced chemical and electroanalytical techniques to gain mechanistic insight into how critical components (e.g., charge-storing organic molecules, polymers, nanoparticles, ceramic membranes) of these systems evolve or degrade during operation. Combining this information with physics-based models informs the design of long-lasting, high-performing devices. Specific applications of interest include carbon capture and sequestration, grid energy storage, pollutant removal, and trace resource recovery.
